ABOUT US


The Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism of Royal North Shore Hospital (Sydney Diabetes) provides a comprehensive clinical consultation service covering all aspects of endocrinology.

The department has operated under the name Sydney Diabetes since July 2002, promoting all the diabetes-related activities on the Royal North Shore Hospital campus.

These include:

Adult Diabetes Clinic – out-patient services (Clinic 1).

Gestational Diabetes Clinic works closely with the antenatal clinic to provide high-quality management of diabetes diagnosed during pregnancy (Clinic 7).

Northern Paediatric & Adolescent Diabetes Service (NeePADS) focuses on the needs of children and adolescents with diabetes. Provided in the new Children’s Unit (Poem Building).

The Sulway Harris Diabetes Centre offers extensive education in diabetes and management skills. (‘The Cottage’ near the Herbert Street entrance).

Diabetes Health Assessment Service annual checkups to patients with Type 1 or 2 diabetes; it aims to identify key risk factors in the development of diabetic complications and help GPs manage diabetic patients. (next to Clinic 1).

Diabetes High Risk Foot Service offers treatment and advice to patients whose diabetes has caused poor circulation and decreased sensation. Early diagnosis of these complications can help prevent further deterioration in the patients’ condition. (Level 3).

Dietetic services for both adults and children Clinic 1, ‘The Cottage’ and the Children’s Unit.

Clinical trials conducted by the Diabetes Clinical Research Unit , which aims to provide a cohesive, quality-controlled approach to investigator-based and externally funded research. (Level 3).
