United Nations adopts November 14 as World Diabetes Day On the 21 December 2006, United Nations General Assembly passed a Resolution to recognise the diabetes epidemic.
The Resolution designates World Diabetes Day, November 14, as a United Nations Day to be observed every year by UN Member States. It calls on all nations to develop national policies for the prevention, treatment and care of diabetes.
Governments have acknowledged that a non-infectious disease poses as a serious threat to world health like infections diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
