WHAT TO EXPECT IF YOU HAVE BEEN REFERRED BY YOUR GP

 You will likely be seen by one of Sydney Diabetes many qualified endocrinologists who may:
Take a full medical history
Conduct a physical examination which would include blood pressure, weight and height.
Examine the feet which would include assessment of vascular (blood flow) and neurological (nerve) changes. If required a referral will be made to a podiatrist or the High Risk Foot Clinic.
Do a preliminary eye examination. If required a referral will be made to an opthalmologist.
Organise an electrocardiograph (electrical tracing of your heart)
Organise pathology tests which would include: HbA1c (assessment of glucose control) Fasting lipids (fats) Blood chemistry Blood haematology Fasting blood glucose Liver function Overnight urine collection 24 hour urine collection
Organise a referral to the Diabetes Education Service
Organise a referral to a dietician
Organise a referal to the Diabetes Health Assessment Service.
